Trikes in GA Traffic Patterns
Some discussion on how very slow trikes can mix safely with General Aviation Traffic at a busy, non controlled airport. The example is a NON STANDARD pattern which is used to avoid skydiving activity to the south of runway 23. As mentioned using a teardrop entry from the north, in this case, is NOT an FAA recommend pattern entry. However, recommended pattern entry is exactly that, RECOMMENDED. So pilot in command can navigate as they see fit for the purpose of safety.

An informal talk about understanding how to coordinate turns in a trike is one of the most critical skills to not only be able to do, but to understand. Lack of this knowledge leads to spiral dives which is the leading cause of fatal trike accidents world wide.

Stuck on base

Stuck on base in a REVOLT. During training we experienced such strong winds aloft that we literally stopped moving across the ground. We even played with it by slowing the trike down and flying backwards a bit. My student was an experienced trike pilot that has been flying for years, but getting some additional advanced training to fly his new REVOLT and he had never experienced anything like i...

1:45 - Ларри! А почему фары разноцветные? Почему не белые? 1:45 - Larry! And why are the headlights multicolored? Why aren't they white?
They can be white, they are programmable in color. So we make them match the trike. The white lights do 99% of the actual light and the ones that change color are less intense.
Embora nao falo a sua lingua ...nao perco im video !!! Parabéns 😃😎🇧🇷
Thank you dear man….
Hi Larry, great class for weight shift aircraft at towered airports. Have you seen Advisory Circular 90-66C for uncontrolled airfields? It's understandable if you haven't. It was published June 2023. www.faa.gov/documentLibrary/media/Advisory_Circular/AC_90-66C.pdf
Thank you Larry. I appreciate (and needed) the review. I will use more teardrop entries when others are around. And a crisper base-to-final. Sometimes my mind is as confused as the diagram seen at the end of the lecture. I have learned to just leave (after announcing of course) and come back when things are calmer. Whew!
Dude. Awesome. Great info.
Very very good larry
AWESOME VIDEO

Good ground school
Good info thank you larry
Larri,frend,Russia we are watching!
Beautifully Beautifully Wow wow
Ларри привет! Ответь честно: на 1:14 было по плану или это была ошибка пилотирования и тебе просто повезло не упасть? Hello Larry! Answer honestly: was it according to plan at 1:14, or was it a piloting error and you were just lucky not to fall?
I have done this repeatedly. Everything you see was controlled. If you notice the tire and wing tip were the exact same height and the tire was lifted to clear the tall grass. I have another video with the wingtip touching the ground. See if you can find it in this video ua-cam.com/video/UhsduxMP9Jk/v-deo.htmlsi=Ov7wN6NbCUcZhg0r

HE FORGET TO MANSION : " THE SAFEST ONE AS WELL " !!!! FLYING REVOLT OR REV , YOU WILL COME DOWN SAFELY EVEN ENGINE STOPS !!! YOU CANNOT SAY WITH OTHER AIRCRAFT THAT !!! 😅
Larry how about a vidio of how to fly down through the turbulance like you showed me at stevensville. That was such an awesome memory i still think about in the revolt.
Sweet!
I love this I wish to invent one soon 🎉
Well done! I couldn't help but giggle to myself when I heard him come of the throttle a bit on initial climb out - I remember from my own solo, that first time you take off - you are frightened by the rate of climb without the weight of an instructor behind you! And the controls feel a LOT lighter! Congratulations!
I LOVE YOUR AIRCRAFT IDOL
That's great.
Very lucky, very well controlled after the impact. Also shows how strong these aircraft are.
WHAT A GREAT VIDEO AGAIN !!! CONGRATULATIONS LARRY
Congrats!
Ok 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
Congrats Micheal 👍 I love your RevX Cheers
I second this!
Youve lossed weight larry whats amy dooin to you. I still have my soarying trike, but just purchaced a bush plane. Btw i have flown with larry and i have seen some bad cfis. Larry by far is tje most knowlegable, commen sense, incredable pilot .ive ever flown with hands down
Larry you have lossed alot of weight. Whats amy dooing to you😇Still have my trikes but i bought a bushplane. Great to see you both keeping up the cause. Your a great cfi . Ive seen some bad advice from cfis I dont own a revo and i have flown with larry. I will say that larry is the most competent, knowlegable ,common sense trike cfi ive ever met.
Yay.
Awesome
What’s the max wind speed you can fly in one of these
It’s really up to the pilot. Here is an example ua-cam.com/video/QEfLodyQ7Z4/v-deo.htmlsi=6iOP1ssDiVFNzBxN
This is great. I love how you can explain the complexity of it in a way that new students can understand, without overwhelming them with theory. Good teachers, lay good foundations. Unscripted, and masters of their craft. Students can only grow from there.. 👌
Legal
Larry you are the best !!!! Good job my friend 🤟🏻
i think you may need a safety helmet hello from Australia
If I may: Power lines will kill you - this pilot was lucky. What remains is the question - WHY did he fly into power lines? There are three sets of circumstances: 1. A pilot takes of having planned his takeoff - and suffers a failing engine or loss of control, with not enough height/speed to avoid the power lines and make his emergency landing point. EFATO: Aircraft's fault. 2. A pilot takes of and flies into power lines under full power. CFIT: Pilot's fault. 3. A pilot engages in low flying (which is lovely), without knowledge of the terrain under and in front of him. CFIT: Pilot's fault. What amazes me from this video is that the pilot takes of under full power and does not put it down right in front of him amongst the crops after the wire strike, but chooses to risk more power lines - in a compromised aircraft - in an attempt to land somewhere else. This is couch preaching, yes, I know, but if you are lucky enough to survive a power line strike and you have a semblance of control over your aircraft - put it down right in front of you! The only REAL excuse for a power line strike, is EFATO with no options. The rest - blame the pilot. Power lines do not "Attack". They are stationary objects, same as mountains. They do not move for you.
#3. Totally pilots fault… I don’t think he was under control when over the road. I think he would have crashed had he set it down on the road. But maybe not… Yes power lines attacking was just in jest. Total pilot error and lack of ADM for sure.
@@LarrySMednick True Larry. After watching again - there was some serious loss of directional control after the strike - so that field in front of him went by the wayside as an option. He actually tried for the road, I think, which was in front of him at that point - but that WOULD have probably resulted in a bad outcome. Thank God for topless wings!! Had there been a reflex bridle from a kingpost, those lines next to the road would have ended it for him...Also - when in that situation you obviously do what you instinctively have to in split seconds, with survival at the top of your mind. By the way - I love your trikes. Wish the exchange rate between Dollar and Rand was better! Love from South Africa.

@@LarrySMednick You are aware of this fatal accident on water, right? Was it caused by a stalled spiral fall? Thank you, flying on water is safer than on land, I just wonder why there was a fatal accident, I have more than 1000 hours of flying on water and more than 10,000 takeoffs and landings.
